My editing and critiquing style
1. Pull out the weeds of unnecessary words.
- Condense less important scenes
- Combine similar scenes
- Cultivate more important scenes
2. Prune the fruit of the story and tend to the soil of the plot.
- Abide in character POV / narrative voice to remain on theme and on message
- Reorganize the flow of sentences/paragraphs
- Transplant “telling” into “showing” and “passive voice” into “active voice”
- Rearrange where scenes and chapters cut off
3. Plant the seeds of narrative essentials.
- Water character arcs to produce the fruit of growth, progress, and change
- Tend the seeds of missing info, dialogue, and details
- Fill in plot holes with the blooms from the seedlings of set-up and foreshadowed ideas
