Book Doctor
For finished or mostly finished manuscripts and if you’ve had a publisher or an agent say your manuscript needs some help or to adjust the word count and would like some direction.
Rates are calculated by two main components: (1) to do a critique or editing and (2) on word count / page count and are influenced by genre, combinations of any of the following in the list, and time constraints.
Either of the following can be a critique where I point out the issues and provide examples of how the writer can resolve them or as a lite edit. See the list below for details on the edit / critique.
Manuscript assessment (fiction and nonfiction)
- Critique: $7 per page / 250 words
- Edit: $35 per hour
A read-through of the whole manuscript, providing a detailed summary of overall major issues of the plot and characters, including weaknesses and strengths and answering any of your questions
Character assessment (fiction)
- Critique: $5 per page / 250 words
- Edit: $30 per hour
A critique or edit focusing on improving the main character’s backstory, arc, dialogue, and relatability in their strengths, weaknesses, goals, and conflicts.
To do an assessment of more than one character, such as the love interest, would be an additional $4 per page for a critique or $20 per hour for an edit.
Word count amendment (fiction and nonfiction)
- Critique: $4 per page / 250 words
- Edit: $25 per hour
A skim through the whole manuscript to edit or suggest where to add details or where to cut repeated info, words, or phrases.
The lite edit includes corrections to:
- Punctuation
- Grammar
- Verb tense changes
Changing (medium edit / content edit) add-on of $1.50 extra per page / $3 extra per hour
